Doncaster Triathletes Triumphant in IRONMAN Competion
Every week throughout the year members of Doncaster Triathlon Club take part in events up and down the country. But this weekend something rather special happened. No fewer than nine members of the club travelled to Maastricht to compete in the Ironman. This is the ultimate test of endurance, the pinnacle of Triathlon. Consisting of a 2.4km miles swim followed by a 112 miles on the bike and then a 26 mile marathon run, only the most dedicated triathletes take it on. The group from Doncaster Triathlon Club have been training intensively since January, braving injuries along the way. They all have a story to tell about how they come to be participating in the 140.6 mile event. And there’s one thing for sure , when they get back they will be dying to talk about the experience.
Quote from Tony Vout, Co-Founder and Chair of Doncaster Triathlon Club
“Doncaster Triathlon Club is about helping everyone get involved in our sport regardless of their ambitions or ability, however when I see 9 of our members taking on the Ironman, 7 of them doing it for the first time, it is impossible to do so without a lump in the throat and a massive swelling of pride in the chest. They have all achieved their goal, for many of them just getting there to start the race was good enough by itself. It’s humbling to see what “ordinary” people can do with the support of a group of like-minded, positive individuals that we have here at DTC. ”
